Early Experiences of South Africa

10th November 1899 (Friday) All up at 4 and managed to struggle through; the Company went off by train to Stellenbosch, 36 miles from Cape Town, while I had to stay and see after some boxes that were missing. I did not see them, so as it was so late I had to go to Castle Barracks for the night................
