Joseph Edward BARNETT
 
This is a photograph of Alan Betts's great uncle, Joseph Edward Barnett
 
Joseph was born in Wolverhampton in 1881. His parents Thomas BARNETT and Hannah BARNETT (nee OWEN) moved to Littleworth in 1883, his father Thomas looking for work in the brickyards
 
Joseph left school and went down the coal mine but at the age of 33 in 1914 he answered 
Kitchener's call and enlisted in the 7th Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment
 
 
In July 1915, they were sent to Gallipoli
 
On the 30th November Joseph was wounded and taken to a field hospital on Lemnos. The following day, he died from his wounds and was buried in

In June 2010, Alan went to Moudros Military Cemetery and visited Joseph's grave and paid his respects
 
 
Alan then wrote the story of his short army career and it appeared in the July 2010 issue of the Journal entitled
