Gordon Francis LEE
 
 
Gordon was born in Cannock on the 13th July 1934
 
He first became a football player, playing right back for Girton Road Gasworks Hednesford Town Football Club, in Hednesford
 
In October 1955 he moved to Aston Villa and he was there playing full back for 11 years until 1966. He played in 142 games and scored 2 goals. He played in the 1961 (gaining a winner’s tankard) and 1963 League Cup Finals
 
In July 1966 he transferred to Shrewsbury Town playing 2 games before he became the trainer-coach
 
Gordon changed his career to management. OI the 1st May 1968 he became manager of Fourth Division Port Vale, succeeding Stanley Matthews and they finished fourth. At the end of the 1969-70 season, gained promotion to the Third Division
 
On the 14th January 1974 he took over as manager at Third Division Blackburn Rovers. In the 1974-75 season, they became the Third Division champions and he gained promotion to the Second Division
 
On the 12th June 1975 he took over as manager at Newcastle United. In 1976 he took them to the final of the League Cup against Manchester City but they lost 2-1
 
On the 30th January 1977 he took over as manager at Everton. In his first season, the team finished ninth and reached the League Cup Final and the F A Cup semi-finals. In the following seasons Everton finished third and fourth. But his 1979-80 was a failure. On the 6th May 1981, he was sacked by the then Chairman Philip Carter
 
 
On the 9th December 1981 he took over as manager at Preston North End as manager. He was there until the 20th December 1983, when he left
 
Later in 1983 he took up a coaching position with Icelandic K. R. Reykjavik, where he was until 1985
 
For a short spell he coached in Saudi Arabia
 
He returned to England and in 1985 he took up the position as coach at Leicester City, and then took on the roll as assistant manager and caretaker manager. Between the 30th January 1991 and the 29th May 1991, he managed Leicester City
 
After leaving management, he scouted for several football clubs up and down the country
 
In 2010 he was retired and living in Lytham St Anne’s, Lancashire
