George Michael BALL

George Michael BALL was born in Hednesford in 1890 and later became a Hawkesman.

George enlisted in 1915 in the Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment and was sent to France.  He was given the regimental number 42022.

In July 1916, he came home on leave and, on 24 July 1916, George married Alan Betts's great aunt Gertrude Ann Barnett at St. Peter's Church in Hednesford.

After home leave, George returned to France. On the 28th March 1918, while serving as a Private in the 2/5th Battalion Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment, he was killed in action at Arras.
