MEMORIES

We all know the importance - for future generations - of capturing and recording recollections of the world as we once knew it, the cherished memories that we and others hold dear, the stories and family anecdotes that get passed down verbally to the generations to come. Sadly, and far too often, we fail to gather and record our family stories and information until it is too late to do so, until our loved ones have reached an age where they struggle to recall the details anymore. It is an understandable human inclination to put this task off as long as we can because, instinctively, we believe there will be plenty of time for that in the months and years to come. If nothing else, the coronavirus emergency has taught us - in the starkest terms - that there is far less time than we might imagine.

With that in mind, we thought Burntwood Family History Group could provide a vehicle to jog memories, one that might encourage people to record their recollections in a way that will see them pass on to future generations rather than disappear completely.

Using our website, we intend to provide a fortnightly topic and invite members to send in their particular memories on that theme. These will be collected and recorded on a “memories page” for that topic. We would obviously like members to suggest the topics for future pages but, to get things underway, we thought memories on the theme of TOYS would be a good place to start. Please click on the link below to access the Toy Stories that have been sent in so far.
